Is Microgynon a progesterone only pill?

Microgynon is a commonly used brand of the combined oral contraceptive pill. You take one pill every day for 21 days, then stop for 7 days, and during this week you have a bleed like a period, referred to as a ‘withdrawal bleed’. You start the next pack after the 7-day break.

The combined pill can be very useful for cycle control and usually makes bleeding regular, lighter and less painful, it can also help with premenstrual symptoms.

You will be protected from pregnancy straight away if you start taking the combined pill in the first 5 days of your period.
